Creating a movie is no easy task, with numerous aspects to consider, especially in post-production. Dubbing is a crucial part of this process, where actors lend their voices to the characters. While dubbing by humans is common, have you ever wondered about the possibility of animals dubbing their voices? This intriguing question is now being addressed in the Kannada film industry.
Man-Animal Bonding on the Big Screen
Movies depicting the bond between humans and animals have been a popular theme across various languages, including Telugu. Kannada cinema has produced notable films like “777 Charlie” and “Naanu Matthu Gunda,” which have explored this connection. Now, the second part of “Naanu Matthu Gunda” is in the making, and it brings a groundbreaking concept – a dog dubbing its own voice.

Simba, the Dog, Takes Center Stage
In a first-of-its-kind attempt, the filmmakers of “Naanu Matthu Gunda 2” have recorded the voice of a dog named Simba for the movie. With headphones on and a recording mic in front, Simba has “dubbed” for its role, providing the necessary sounds and emotional expressions required for the character. The makers have meticulously recorded various sounds, from barking to different emotional expressions, ensuring they fit perfectly into the movie’s context.
Director’s Vision and the Film’s Reception
The first part of “Naanu Matthu Gunda” received widespread acclaim, especially from animal lovers. The film starred Rakesh Adiga and featured Simba, the dog, in a significant role. Directed by Raghu Hassan, who also helmed the first part, the sequel promises to be just as engaging. According to Hassan, the sounds made by dogs have a unique resonance, and Simba’s voice in the film is authentic, making this the first instance in Indian cinema where a dog has dubbed its own voice.
Produced by Raghu Hassan under the banner of Poem Pictures, with music by R.P. Patnaik, “Naanu Matthu Gunda 2” is set to release in Kannada and five other languages. The concept of a dog dubbing has quickly gone viral, generating significant buzz and anticipation for the movie.
