Again Turmoil in Nepal Government:

Again Turmoil in Nepal Government

Political turmoil erupted in Nepal. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda got the big shock Dramatic developments are currently unfolding in the country’s politics. Dissatisfied with Prime Minister Prachanda’s leadership, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has joined hands with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. The duo plans to form a new government.

Sources said both Oli and Deuba are ready to take over as the new coalition government instead of the present coalition government headed by Prime Minister Prachanda. For this, an understanding agreement has been reached between the two parties.

The two parties had agreed to share the prime minister’s position on a rotational basis. But Prachanda has declared that there is no question of resigning from the prime minister’s post. Prachanda told a meeting of the Communist Party of Nepal office bearers that he would rather face a no-trust motion in parliament than quit.

According to the constitution, under which he was sworn in, the prime minister has a 30-day period during which he should gain the confidence of the parliament. Prachanda had already won the vote of confidence three times and this was his time in power. The quitting of CPN-UML, that was supporting Prachanda’s government, pushed the government to the verge of collapse.

This time Oli was not very happy with the budget presentation and therefore pulled back. After the coalition government of Prachanda fell, it was decided by Oli and Deuba that the constitution should be amended during the tenure of the new government.

They had decided that the prime minister’s job would be rotated among them for the next three years. However, the total seats in Nepal’s parliament number 275. Deuba’s Nepali Congress has some 89 seats and Oli’s party has 78, so together they would have a majority with 167 seats.
