Akhil’s Agent telugu movie review

Star cast: Akhil Akkineni, Mammotty, Dino Morea, Varalaxmi Sarat Kumar, Sampat Raj and others

Music: Hiphop Tamizha

Cinematography: Rasool Yellore

Editor: Navin Nooli

Producer: Anil Sunkara

Director: Surendar Reddy The highly anticipated Akhil’s Agent movie is finally in theatres this Friday. Directed by star director Surendar Reddy, Agent movie has been eagerly tracked by not just Akkineni fans but also general audience. Has Akhil-Surendar Reddy combination delivered what audience expected?

Story and backdrop of Agent:

As publicised since the launch of movie, Agent is a spy thriller. Ramakrishna alias Ricky (Akhil) dreams of being a RAW Agent. Though initially he fails in cracking RAW, finally floors RAW chief Devil (Mammotty) with his hacking skills and enters the elite force.

Once Ricky enters RAW, Devil assigns him a task to spoil the plans of God (Dino Morea), who heads an international crime syndicate. Though God was an ex-RAW Agent, he goes wayward and turns a most wanted criminal working against India.

Why God, who was once a RAW Agent turned against India, whether Ricky succeeds in his fight against God and other aspects form the crux of Agent movie.

Analysis of Screenplay and treatment:

Agent story is typical of a spy action thriller. To narrate a story like this in an engaging way, director Surendar Reddy has banked on stylish presentation and treatment.

Surendar Reddy is known for stylish taking. While he has banked heavily on it in Agent, incoherent scenes and slow narration play spoilsport. While first half is better, proceedings become boring and unintelligible in second half.

Akhil’s one man show:

As has been promoted since beginning, Akhil has consumed most of the runtime of Agent movie. From sporting six pack abs to strenuous fights to energetic  dance moves, Akhil has done it all. He needs to be appreciated for his effort. But in the absence of a strong script, his efforts fail to impress audience.

Malayalam star Mammotty, who is also a familiar face with Telugus, played an important role in Agent. He is decent in his role.

Model-turned-actor Dino Morea is the main villain of Agent. He has carried it with style and ease.

Sakshi Vaidya appears as Akhil’s romantic interest. Apart from that she does not have any role in the story.

Quite surprisingly Agent also features Varalaxmi Sarat Kumar but in a very small role. One wonders how she accepted it.

Coming to technical crew, senior cinematography Rasool has shot movie well. Action sequences are impressive. But music by Hiphop Tamizha is a let down. Neither are there any memorable numbers nor impressive BGM.

Editor Navin Nooli should have made Agent crispier. Especially second half lags a lot needing attention from editor.

Ybrant News verdict:

Agent marked the coming together of star director Surendar Reddy and star kid Akhil Akkineni. But it will neither impress Surendar Reddy fans nor Akhil Akkineni’s well wishers. Akhil’s wait for solid hit continues.
Rating: 2/5
