The former Deputy CM has been keeping away from the media ever since his defeat. About a week ago, Nani announced his resignation from the posts of YSRCP Eluru District President and Eluru Constituency In-charge through a press note. Now, recently, he announced that he is also resigning from the YSRCP party, thereby coming in front of the media for the first time since his defeat.

Within days of his resignation to the party, YSRCP district office in Eluru was demolished. As the office was built during Nani’s regime, there was a lot of speculation that his resignation and demolition of the office are connected. Even the local YSRCP ranks seemed to believe the same. To put an end to such speculations, Nani called for a media meet. He said his resignation to the YSRCP was on personal grounds and he was retiring from politics for some time. He even clarified to the party cadre that the land, which was given on lease seven years ago, was returned to the owner of the land after the expiry of the lease period. Nani said they had projected to return the land on August 1 but postponed it until after the Independence Day celebrations. He said further that the demolition of the office had nothing to do with his resignation.

The demolition of the office on Friday enraged YSRCP supporters, who suspected political motives behind it. But Nani explained that in 2017 the land was taken on lease from an NRI friend and temporary constructions were made on the site. The landowner has been demanding its return for development purposes for the last one year. Though they had decided to return it three months prior to the elections, they waited until after the elections.

In a special meeting with his followers and party cadre, Nani reiterated that he was stepping away from politics for the time being. He, however, spoke not a word about what he would do next in politics. Speculation suggests that he may join the JanaSena Party, possibly after a period of political silence.
