In the heart of Guntur city, former minister Ambati Rambabu’s brother, Ambati Murali Krishna, has allegedly constructed a 14-story apartment building without the necessary permits. According to regulations, buildings adjacent to railway tracks are restricted to a maximum height of five stories. Initially, Murali Krishna secured a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the railway department for a G+5 structure but subsequently used his influence to construct a 14-story building under the guise of revised plans.
Despite lacking full approvals, officials overlooked the construction for five years. The apartment lacks a service road, and necessary amenities were not included in the plans. In July, the authorities issued notices after discovering unpaid fees, but the builder continued construction without addressing these issues. Even after the railway department alerted them, the Guntur Municipal Corporation officials took no action.

Murali Krishna had originally obtained permits for a G+5 structure in 2015. He applied for revised plans in 2017 to expand to G+14, and again in 2023, claiming modifications to one of the towers. However, officials stated that the required documents for these revisions were only uploaded in July 2024, at which point permission was granted.
TDP MLA Dhoolipalla Narendra alleged that the building does not truly belong to Murali Krishna; rather, he was appointed merely to supervise the construction. He accused Murali Krishna of intimidating the actual owners to seize control of the property. Furthermore, a letter from the railway department revoking the NOC has reportedly gone missing from the municipal office. In light of mounting criticism, the municipal corporation has directed a halt to the construction for now.
