Andhra Pradesh: Mudragada Changes Name to Padmanabha Reddy, Rare in Politics

In a very rare incident of its kind in politics, senior YSRCP leader Mudragada Padmanabham has changed his name. He will now be officially known as Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy. This change has been published in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette. According to an earlier challenge issued to him, Mudragada had promised to append Reddy to his name if Pawan Kalyan was to win from the Pithapuram constituency in the Assembly elections. With Pawan Kalyan’s victory, he kept his word and appended the suffix ‘Reddy’ to his name.

Standing by challenges is rarely seen in politics, but challenges are common. Many a time, politicians promise many things during the heat of the election season and later find reasons to back out. However, former minister, senior politician and YSRCP leader Mudragada Padmanabham proved to be an exception. On his part, he had challenged that he would defeat him in Pithapuram during a lot of muck thrown at Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan by the then TDP strongman and now senior YSRCP leader Mudragada in the last election campaign. He had declared that he would change his name to ‘Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy’ if he failed in the by-poll. On the 4th, when the results were out, Pawan Kalyan won with a bumper majority from Pithapuram. Stimulated by this, on the 5th, Mudragada met the media and conceded defeat. But true to his commitment, clarifying he was determined about changing his name, he immediately prepared the documents for publication in the Gazette related to the change of name to Padmanabha Reddy. That is now officially approved and published in the Gazette.

Furthermore, Mudragada has expressed his seriousness over being repeatedly trolled as “Upma Padmanabham.” He explained that offering breakfast and coffee to guests at home is a tradition passed down from his grandfather and father, and there is nothing wrong with it.
