Foxconn is now set to make the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models in the Tamil Nadu plant for one of the top partners of Apple Inc. According to a report by Bloomberg, thousands of workers are presently being trained to undertake the production of these models. Post their international release, Foxconn will locally assemble the iPhone 16 series of phones. Other Apple partners in the country, including Tata Group and Pegatron, will also be involved in the assembly of these models, which will directly influence the prices of the iPhone 16 series.

Currently, import duties on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max units are charged at the time they are brought into the country, which increases their prices. Local production may bring the prices down. Although Apple intends to lower the price point by about 10%, even after the price cut, the selling rates in India could still be higher than the global rate due to local taxes and other very expensive components. The guess is that a majority of the iPhone 16 Pro which is going to be locally assembled will be exported to global markets in Europe, Middle East, and the Americas.

There are speculations that Apple will kick-start the production of the iPhone 17 exclusively in India.

Leaks regarding the launch of the iPhone 16 suggest that the new series of the gadget will be launched on September 10 at Apple Park, while one poster for the event shows the event name as “Ready, Set, Capture.” The attendees are going to be invited to the Steve Jobs Theater. The iPhone 16 models are going to be on sale from September 10, while some AI features might not be fully rolled out until the iOS 18.1 update in October.
