Ayyanna Patrudu Elected as AP Assembly Speaker


Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh – The senior TDP leader and ex-Minister Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu was today elected unanimously as the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly. The election occurred on the second day of the first session of the 16th Legislative Assembly.

Nominations received on Friday numbered three, all for the Speaker’s post in favour of Ayyanna Patrudu. This was confirmed by PPK Ramacharyulu, secretary general of the Legislative Assembly. The unanimous decision underlined the broad reach of support and respect viewed across parties for Ayyanna Patrudu.

Session Proceedings –

Day two commenced at 10:30 am, wherein three MLAs who did not take their oaths on Friday completed the formalities today. With this, the swearing in of all the 175 MLAs in Andhra Pradesh was complete.

Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu is a veteran politician with considerable time spent in legislating affairs. The senior TDP leader and ex-minister has behind him a long history of public service and political involvement in Andhra Pradesh. Election of this Speaker is supposed to bring in a lot of experience and stability into the Legislative Assembly.
