In Bangladesh, while law and order have largely been brought under control, violent incidents continue to occur in some areas. There have been widespread protests by Bajrang Dal, RSS, and BJP in India, along with demands to stop attacks on minority Hindus, including from the Indian embassy. It’s well known that Sheikh Hasina fled the country due to the inability to curb the violence in Bangladesh. However, the situation remains dangerous for her supporters, who are being attacked and harassed by protestors if they are found. Without proper security, it has become unsafe to step outside. Renowned Bangladeshi actress Rokeya Prachi recently experienced such an incident.
Physical Assault:
On August 15, while actress Prachi was driving along Bangabandhu Road, heading to pay homage to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a mob surrounded her car. The mob grabbed some papers from her hands and tore them up. They physically assaulted her, disregarding the fact that she was a woman, and even tore her clothes. The mob danced indecently in front of her. Somehow escaping in fear for her life, Prachi later addressed the media about the attack she endured.

“My Support Still Lies with Hasina”
Prachi questioned whether her participation in election campaigns in support of Sheikh Hasina in the past was a mistake. She firmly stated that she still supports Sheikh Hasina. She accused terrorists affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami extremist organization of attacking people like her. Prachi asserted that she would not compromise even if a sword or gun were held to her head. She mentioned that many from Sheikh Hasina’s faction have already gone underground in Bangladesh and that there are attempts to force people like her into hiding as well. Prachi criticized the current government for failing to maintain law and order, leaving people like her without protection.
