The MLA quota MLC elections have given a huge shock to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Surprising everyone TDP candidate Panchumarthi Anuradha emerged victorious. The victory of Anuradha, at a time when even TDP was not confident, came as a big set back for ruling YSRCP.
What’s more interesting about TDP candidate Anuradha’s victory is, there has been cross voting from YSRCP MLAs.
While six YSRCP candidates won, Anuradha won as the 7th MLC from TDP. To win each MLC needed 22 MLAs votes. When pre-election analysis was done, there was absolutely no choice for TDP to win. Because TDP won just 23 MLA seats in 2018. Among them 4 MLAs defected to ruling TDP. That means TDP’s present strength is just 19.
If TDP candidate has to win then YSRCP candidates have to cross vote for TDP. But keeping in view the powerful stature YS Jagan is enjoying now, it was considered highly unlikely that YSRCP MLAs will cross vote to TDP. But betraying all propositions YSRCP MLAs cross voted to Panchumarthi Anuradha. At a time, when general elections are just year ahead, this is a big shock for YS Jagan.
