Revenue Department recently issued notices to two colleges of Rajasekhar Reddy in Dundigal — MLR Institute of Technology, or MLRIT as it is popularly known, and another – Aeronautical Engineering College.
The notices mentioned that the colleges are located within the FTL and buffer zone of Chinnadamma Cheruvu, the water body. The government has sought an explanation for the same within 15 days. Construction of education institutions in the restricted zone like FTL and buffer zone is a serious violation and brings many questions on environmental and legal grounds.
It is an important development where a leading political figure in the BRS party is involved and brings out the possible land use and environmental fouls. The authorities’ move shows that whatever be the persons involved, illegal constructions and land encroachments will not be tolerated.

In that respect, the situation is likely to have wider ramifications, not only for Rajasekhar Reddy but also for other institutions which could well be operating under similar circumstances. The outcome of this notice is also likely to set a precedent in the way such cases are handled henceforth, especially in Telangana, where rapid urbanization has brought land use practices under close scrutiny.
As the date of explanation draws near, it remains to be seen how Rajasekhar Reddy and his colleges would respond to these allegations and what next course of action the authorities would take. It shows how important the adherence to environmental regulations is and punitive action in case of failure to abide by them, even for influential figures.
