Roja, the versatile Indian politician and former actress, marks another year today, as she celebrates her birthday on November 17. Born as Sri Latha Reddy in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, in 1972, Roja has transitioned from being a leading figure in Tamil and Telugu cinema from 1991 to 2002 to currently serving as the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Youth Advancement in Andhra Pradesh.
This transition from the glamour of the film industry to the responsibilities of political office showcases Roja’s diverse talents and commitment to public service. In her illustrious film career, she garnered recognition with three Nandi Awards and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award. However, in 2022, Roja announced her departure from the film industry to focus entirely on her political career, emphasizing that she would no longer be acting in films.
Roja’s political journey has been noteworthy. Currently, she serves as the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Youth Advancement, a role she assumed on April 11, 2022, under the leadership of Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Her political career includes being a Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly since June 2014, representing the Nagari constituency.
As we celebrate Roja’s birthday, it’s an opportune moment to acknowledge her contributions to both the entertainment world and the political landscape. Her commitment to public service, highlighted by her roles in the Andhra Pradesh government and various party positions, reflects her dedication to uplifting her community.
Beyond her political roles, Roja has been a chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and has held significant positions within the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party, where she currently aligns herself. Married to R. K. Selvamani since 2002, Roja is a mother of two.
On this special day, Cinema Express joins in extending warm wishes to Roja, recognizing her achievements, and applauding her for the journey she has undertaken, both in the world of cinema and in the service of the people of Andhra Pradesh. Happy Birthday, Roja!
