Central Government Announces Ex Gratia for Anakapalli Pharma Blast Victims

The death toll touched 18, and more than 50 suffered injuries, in a reactor blast at a pharmaceutical company in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli on Wednesday. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu issued crucial orders for a high-level inquiry into this tragic incident. He is expected to visit the site of the incident in Anakapalli on Thursday. He will be reaching Vijayawada Gannavaram Airport, drive to Anakapalli, and condole the deaths with the families of the dead. He will also visit the hospital to meet the injured workers under treatment.

Compensation for Accident

The central government has announced compensation for the families of those who lost their lives in the reactor explosion. As per the statement by PMO, each family of the deceased would be provided with ₹2 lakh, while those injured in the incident will be compensated with ₹50,000. Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer expressed shock over the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was mainly caused by a solvent leak. The huge blast took place while dangerous chemicals were shifted from the reactor to a storage tank. At the time of the incident, the factory walls gave in, resulting in severe injuries to workers who were buried beneath the debris.
