On Thursday, the former chief minister and the TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu called on the Governor and Chancellor of NTR Health University, Biswabhushan Harichandan to seek his intervention against the bill that renames the university as Dr YSR Health University. He urged the Governor to reject the bill, saying it was introduced in the assembly without the knowledge of the chancellor.
He asked what was the need for the government to bring the legislation in such a hurry, and the bill is highly unethical and irrelevant. He said several thousands of students obtained medical degrees from the colleges affiliated to this university in the past 24 years.
16 colleges, out of the 32 medical colleges in the state, along with 3 private and 5 government institutions, were established during the reigns of Telugu Desam party. But the YSRCP government did nothing for the health sector.
Chandrababu said that only 3 new medical colleges in the state have received approvals during the Jagan government, referring to a reply from the Centre ti Vijaysai Reddy’s question in the Rajya Sabha. The chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy did not even bother to distribute water to it, though the TD struggled a lot to get the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
