China had test-fired a continental ballistic missile in the Pacific Ocean. The Ministry of National Defense issued a statement stating that the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force fired the missile, carrying an unarmed warhead, at 8:44 AM local time on Wednesday, and the missile “hit its intended target.”.
“This test will be used to analyze aspects like how well our forces are trained, weapon capabilities and if they can hit the targeted points. It’s a routine affair in our annual exercise. We had advanced alert to relevant countries regarding the launch of the missile. The test was conducted as per international laws and did not target any country, ” added the statement.

The First in 44 Years
It was the first test in 44 years that China launched a continental ballistic missile from the sea. The country first conducted this type of test way back in 1980, after which most nuclear tests were performed on land. Recently, North Korea also tested short-range ballistic missiles in different directions toward the East Sea. This increase in missile activities in the Asia-Pacific region makes it a significant concern as China made this latest test. China has developed nuclear capabilities at a very high level, according to experts. At the same time, China has announced that it is totally against using atomic weapons.
