CJI UU Lalit withdraws from Amaravati case

On Tuesday, the Chief Justice of India, Justice UU Lalit emancipated himself from hearing the case in the Supreme Court. When the bench took up the case for hearing, a senior advocate arguing for the Amaravati farmers recalled this. Reacting to this, Lalit was amazed when he gave advice to Jagan Mohan Reddy on Amaravati.

It was then the advocate presented the copy of his advice to the bench which Justice Lalit examined. By transferring the case to another constitution bench, the Chief Justice rescued himself from hearing of the case. The state government had penned a letter to the Supreme Court requesting for early hearing.

Following a letter from the Andhra Pradesh government, the Chief Justice posted the case to November 1 from the initial date of November 14. The state directorate also grumbled to the Supreme Court that the AP High Court had questioned the legislative rights of the government and wanted the Supreme Court to look into these issues.

As the state directorate was in a hurry to move to Visakhapatnam, the authorities had solicited the Supreme Court to scrap the case as soon as possible. As a result, the case was preponed to the 1st of November by the Supreme Court.
