The India Meteorological Department has reported the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal evolving into Cyclone Midhili. With a projected landfall on the Bangladesh coast, the cyclonic storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of West Bengal and Odisha in the next 24 hours. Coastal districts of West Bengal, including North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, East Medinipur, and Kolkata, are likely to be impacted, while specific districts in Odisha, such as Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur, may also experience heavy rainfall. The maximum wind speed is anticipated to reach 80 kmph during the night of November 17 or early hours of November 18. Authorities are advising residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions in the wake of this weather development. The name ‘Midhili,’ given by the Maldives, follows the naming sequence adopted by the World Meteorological Organization and member countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission.
