Gujarat is set to launch India’s first submarine tourism project in Dwarka, offering a unique underwater experience. This initiative, in collaboration with Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL), is expected to be operational before Diwali 2024. The project aims to showcase the marine life around Bet Dwarka, a small island off the coast of Dwarka city, which is known for its mythological significance and is believed to be home to a submerged city created by Lord Krishna.
The submarine tourism facility will allow tourists to dive 100 meters below the sea in a specially designed submarine, providing a window view for each passenger. The submarine is designed to accommodate 30 passengers and will be led by experienced pilots and a professional crew. This innovative tourism project is expected to boost the tourism prospects of Dwarka, enhancing its appeal as a prominent temple town and a destination for marine exploration.
The Gujarat government hopes that this first-of-its-kind underwater tourism facility in India will not only promote tourism in the state but also provide a deeper insight into the marine biodiversity and archaeological significance of the region. An official announcement regarding this project will be made at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, scheduled on January 10, 2024.
