The strike by junior doctors of government hospitals in West Bengal, protesting for justice in the r…e and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, continued on Sunday, affecting health services in the state for the 10th consecutive day. In government hospitals, the outpatient department (OPD) remained closed on Sunday, but senior doctors continued to provide services in the emergency department.
Speaking to the media, a protesting doctor said, “We are not in favor of disrupting health services. We can understand the problems of patients, but our protest is very relevant in the context of the r…e and murder of a doctor on duty.” The doctor said, “We will continue our protest until our sister gets justice and the government makes proper arrangements for our safety.”

The body of the postgraduate trainee woman doctor was found inside the seminar room of the hospital on August 9. An accused was arrested the next day in the case.
State government has decided to develop a mobile application with an alarm device which women can download and use to communicate with the concerned local police stations in case of any emergency.
