The Supreme Court is hearing the bail plea of BRS leader K Kavitha, arrested in the alleged money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Policy. The ED told the court that it will file its reply by August 22. The Supreme Court then listed K Kavitha’s bail plea for 27th August and said the bench would be filing a response then. The apex court was hearing pleas by K Kavitha challenging the earlier Delhi HC verdict that denied her bail in corruption and money laundering cases.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan heard the case on Tuesday. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED and the CBI, told the bench that the CBI’s counter affidavit has already been filed and the ED’s counter affidavit is in the ‘pipeline’. Raju said that the ED’s reply will be filed by August 22.

Kavita’ lawyer, said that his client was a co-accused in the case in which the apex court had recently granted bail to former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Rohatgi said that Kavita is the only female accused in both the cases and investigation in the CBI and ED cases has been completed and chargesheet has been filed.
Delhi high court refused KCR’ daughter Kavitha bail on July 1 in both cases. Kavitha has been in jail for 5 months.
