ENG vs WI: Pollard walks off after West Indies' chase. Is it a self-inflicted mistake?

If West Indies, one of the least favorites for victory, has handed a shocking defeat to England in the T20 Super 8 match, then the game was taken on grounds of St. Lucia; however, due to Keiran Pollard’s explosive play, the West Indies won with an 8-wicket gain. It wasn’t an ordinary win; West Indies have dealt a heavy blow to England by chasing a gigantic total of 180 runs with quite an ease in just 17.3 overs.

Philip Salt of the West Indies started with an excellent knock of 87 runs off his 47-ball 7 fours, 5 sixes, thus setting an epitome anchor for their chase. He was provided good support by Jonny Bairstow, who scored an unbeaten 48* off 26 balls with great support to see them home. Both the batsmen had presented clinical and skilled batting against English bowlers.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 tournament, Pollard has been appointed as a batting consultant for England, drawing on his experience in advising their players with game plans. His influence was evident as England’s batsmen and bowlers had to face some really tough challenges against the Windies.

Salt and Bairstow were marvelous, laying a great platform for their team to win. Aggressive display against the Windies’ bowlers came in very handy. Former player Pollard seems to help the team even as a consultant not only in batting but in bowling strategies also, continues to provide useful inputs.

Cricket fans have been commenting in admiration of Pollard’s contribution as a batting consultant for England, terming the appointment as one of the major factors that has been attributed to West Indies’ recent performances. Of course, this is not an altogether unhinged Uzgger-esque attempt at improving England’s cricketing fortunes all round.
