Roja The program “Aadudam Andhra,” initiated by the YSRCP government to promote sports in Andhra Pradesh, is now embroiled in allegations of fund misappropriation. Despite the program’s intention to boost sports, accusations have surfaced claiming that funds were misused under the guise of promoting sports.
What’s the truth behind these allegations? What are the specific claims, and who might face consequences if they are proven true? Politically, how might this affect the situation? Some might wonder if these allegations are reminiscent of cases discussed in the infamous “Red Book,” which tracked corrupt practices.

Nara Lokesh, a leader from the opposition party, has been vocal about corruption and has continually promised action against those involved. Now, it seems that steps are being taken in line with his promises. The YSRCP government had organized several sports development programs during their term, such as “Aadudam Andhra” and “CM Cup.” During this period, R.K. Roja was the Sports Minister, and Dharmana Krishna Das was the President of the AP Olympic Association. Currently, the two seem to be under scrutiny, with possible action imminent.
But, did the Andhra Pradesh government initiate an investigation on its own? No. A former Kabaddi player, R.D. Prasad, filed a complaint with the CID, alleging misuse of funds. Now, the police department is preparing to take action. The “Aadudam Andhra” program was held before the elections with a budget of ₹150 crores, lasting for 47 days. The event began in December 2023 and ended in February 2024.

Allegations include purchasing substandard kits, cricket bats breaking during matches, mismanagement of funds meant for player amenities and food, and irregularities in the tender process. The complaint also points to discrepancies in the procurement and distribution of materials. If corruption is proven, it could hold former Sports Minister Roja accountable. The police have indicated that a thorough investigation will be conducted. Several former ministers already face charges, and Roja appears to be next in line.
Criticism was prevalent even during the program’s implementation, with accusations that it was more about promoting YSRCP rather than sports. Substandard equipment, such as broken bats and poor-quality kits, drew public ire. At the time, no one lodged complaints, likely because the YSRCP was still in power. However, with the change in government, these issues have resurfaced. Notices to R.K. Roja and Krishna Prasad seem inevitable. If issued, the two could find themselves frequently visiting police stations and courts.

During her tenure, Roja was one of the most outspoken members of the YSRCP, often targeting opposition leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan. However, her presence in party activities has diminished recently. She was absent from a protest organized by the YSRCP in Delhi and is reportedly spending more time in Chennai rather than her constituency. Many speculate that if Roja had moderated her tone earlier, she might not be facing these difficulties now. In any case, the net seems to be tightening around her.
