Fire Engulfs Mumbai's Times Tower, Major Damage Reported

A fire raged through the Times Tower near the Bombay Central railway station in Mumbai at around 7 on Friday morning, reducing the seven-storey building to cinders. Soon after the outbreak of the fire, large columns of smoke rolled out from the building. Large number of fire engines were rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the outbreak of fire.

Firefighters worked for four hours to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, officials claimed no casualties in the incident. However, sources said that the property damage in crores. Fire was mainly reported at the back side of the 14-storey building and spread between the third to seventh floor.

The incident has occurred in the Kamala Mills Compound, an address that has witnessed similar fire incidents. It is, in fact, the third fire within five years in the area. As Sandeep Deshpande, leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, said, despite the high-rise buildings, inspections by civic authorities have been few and far between. Deshpande also said that the number of illegal constructions in this area is increasing and that the local legislators are reportedly supporting these unauthorized developments.
