Five Dead Due to Poisonous Gas in Well in Chhattisgarh


A very sad incident occurred in Chhattisgarh. Five persons died after inhaling poisonous gas inside a well in Kikirda village of the district of Janjgir-Champa, causing a wave of grief among residents.

When a long time passed and Jaiwal did not come out, his family members saw inside the well that he had lost consciousness and the chain was moving without his hand’s movement. His frightened family members immediately gave this fact to the nearby Patel family.

Three members of the Patel family entered the well to rescue Jaiswal. While there was no response for a few moments from the three, this added to the anxiety of two more members of the family trying to save them; even Chandra went into the well, resulting in faintly holding her breath.

The police reached the spot and launched rescue operations after getting the information about the incident. Preliminary findings pointed out that there was the presence of poisonous gas inside the well, which led to their suffocation and consequently their deaths, said Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Shukla of Bilaspur Range. An SDRF team retrieved the bodies from the well.

The names of the deceased were given in records as Ramchandra Jaiwal, Ramesh Patel, Rajendra Patel, Jitendra Patel, and finally, Tikeshwar Chandra.
