Four Arrested for Torturing Tribal Woman in Telangana

A shocking incident has surfaced from the Nagarkurnool district of Telangana, wherein four people were arrested for their alleged involvement in torturing a 27-year-old Chenchu tribal woman. This happened after the latter failed to turn up at the agricultural land outsourced for her work for a week. The incident took place at Molachintalapally village of Kollapur mandal.

According to the police, among the accused were the woman’s sister and brother-in-law. The matter came into notice on Wednesday when the worried villagers noticed her absence and realized the gravity of the situation whereafter she was rescued.

In a complaint, the victim, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital, narrated her ordeal. She stated that she was assaulted with sticks and tortured for not reporting to work on the land owned by one of the accused. The woman also had a family dispute with her sister running over a period of time which possibly escalated into violence.

The allegations against the four are gruesome. The victim claimed they burned her private parts and thighs and rubbed her eyes and body with chilli powder. The police have corroborated this and took quick action.

The cops arrested the four accused on Friday and sent them to judicial remand. Severe charges against them were framed, including sexual assault, attempt to murder, and several other IPC sections and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

On Saturday, the State Excise Minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, met the woman in the hospital and condemned her incident. He consoled her, assured justice would be done, and that the accused would not be spared. The minister announced a financial assistance package of Rs two lakh to the victim and assured support for the education of her children by the government.

The incident brings into sharp focus the unabated violence and exploitation the tribals have been facing. It serves as a grim reminder that vigilant protection and swift justice are required in advance to avoid such atrocities.
