Tension between BRS and Congress on a High Note

Political rhetoric touched new heights in Telangana, where the ruling BRS and opposition Congress are often at each other’s throats. Now, this controversy pertains to the comments made by KTR, a key leader in BRS, which erupted into extensive outrage. Protests are against his remarks regarding women; his effigy was burnt, and women’s organizations are strongly condemning this.

The Controversial Comments and Backlash

It all began when the Minister in Congress, Seethakka, commented that there was nothing wrong if the women of Telangana sold stitched clothes, weavings, or even everyday items on the RTC buses. Enraged by this, KTR replied that while selling all that was okay, it was the apathy shown towards passengers who fail to get a seat despite buying tickets that really bothered him. He explained that his comments were meant to indicate that more buses were required, not belittle women’s activities.

It appears the Telangana State Women’s Commission took the comments of KTR seriously and ordered a suo-moto inquiry. Minister Seethakka shot back sharply at KTR accusing the latter of not being able to digest the grand success of the free bus travel scheme for women introduced by the Congress government. The scheme had been immensely popular

KTR’s Clarification and Apology

Facing backlash, KTR clarified his comments and mentioned that he had never intended to make derogatory remarks about women. He said that he and his party hold women at a very high pedestal and that opposition parties were blowing the issue out of proportion needlessly. KTR expressed his regret if his comments hurt anybody’s sentiments and said it was never his intention to disrespect women.

KTR further accused the Congress ministers of politicizing the issue to gain mileage, asserting that these tactics would finally boomerang on the Congress party itself. He reiterated his commitment to women’s welfare and schemes brought in by the government for the betterment of women in Telangana. KTR expressed confidence that the women of Telangana would understand his intentions and continue support to the government’s initiatives.

Conclusion: Political Chess in Telangana

Once again, this incident proved how stiff the political rivalry in Telangana had gone. Small comments there turn out to be major controversies. Against the aggravated political backdrop, complex dynamics are played out by leaders from both sides; each party tries to bend public opinion to its side.
