IND vs AFG: Rain Threatens Match, Potential Impact on Teams

IND vs AFG Barbados Weather:

All of the group matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 have been played, and the names of all the teams that have qualified for the Super 8 are out. One of the teams moving onto the next stage includes India and Afghanistan, whose match is going to take place on 20 June at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Here comes the bad news associated with this match. The weather department has given its verdict that the sky will be gloomy with a shower.

In the current edition of the T20 World Cup, many matches have been fully abandoned by rain whereas some matches have been restricted to fewer overs due to inclement weather conditions. The last group match against Canada in Florida was also washed out by rain. However, the team managed to advance to the next stage as it won its first three matches easily without any problems.

What are the rules if the match is cancelled in the Super 8?

In T20 World Cup 2024, while it was mandatory for both teams to play at least 5 overs to get a result in the group stage, the same rule applies in the Super 8. There is no reserve day for rain-affected matches. If it rains today and the match gets washed out, India and Afghanistan will get a point each. Sometimes, it could turn out to be a good deal for some while proving disadvantageous to others.

Which Super 8 group are India and Afghanistan in?

The ICC has already decided the seeding of teams for the Super 8 and hence the group stage scores were not taken as the basis. In this stage, the eight teams have been divided into two groups of four. India and Afghanistan have been kept in Group 1. Every team in its group will play three matches. The two teams at the top in any group will move to the semifinals, thereby shortlisting it.
