“It is going to be a short while before World Cricket can wear a new look as reports are floating that have put BCCI Secretary Jay Shah as one of the top contenders for the ICC Chairman post. Already a power centre of Indian cricket, Jay Shah has since been widely seen as an influential figure in the BCCI, often referred to as “shadow president of the board”.

The sports fraternity is seeing every possibility of Jay Shah becoming the chairman of the International Cricket Council. The tenure of incumbent International Cricket Council Chairman Greg Barclay is already ending on November 30. Though eligible to contest an election for a second term, Barclay had already announced that he would not seek another term as ICC chairman.

This has thrown wide open the race for the top position in world cricket, and Jay Shah is one of the strong contenders now.

Jay Shah aspired to be the ICC Chairman at a juncture when India is the dominant force in world cricket. He, in such a case, would mean more or less cementing the fact that India runs global cricketing affairs. However, whether he will actually enter the race, only time will tell, as the final date for filing nominations under any circumstance is August 27. This deadline stands to bring some clarity to the situation in terms of whether indeed Jay Shah is created with the responsibility of vying for the most prestigious role in ICC.

If Jay Shah is made ICC Chairman, that would be one of the most historic things that would take place: India would sit at the top in global cricket governance. All eyes are set on this race as its result would change the face of cricket administration across the world.
