On Friday night, an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru had a major accident. Midway through the journey the engine failed and returned to Kolkata airport. With that, two runways were urgently cleared and the plane was allowed to land safely.
Indigo Airlines said that there were no injuries to the passengers and crew of the flight. Officials said there were 173 people on board the flight, including the crew, and all of them were safe. An emergency declaration was announced at 10:39 pm when pilot of flight 6E 0573 reported an emergency engine failure at Kolkata airport on Friday night, minutes after take-off.

Immediately the runway was inspected and two runways were made available to the pilot. With that, the plane landed safely with a single engine.
A passenger claimed that an engine caught fire, but there was no confirmation on the matter from the airline or airport authorities. At 11:05 pm the plane landed safely on single engine. “Engine failure is a serious emergency. But this is not unusual. Luckily, the plane landed safely,” said an official.
