The BCCI has announced that the IPL 2022 final on May 29 between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has received the Guinness world record for the largest attendance at a T20 match.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted, “Extremely delighted and proud to receive the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a T20 match when 101,566 people witnessed the epic @IPL final at @GCAMotera’s magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium on 29 May 2022. A big thanks to our fans for making this possible! @BCCI!”
On the other hand the BCCI’s tweet reads, “A proud moment for everyone as India creates the Guinness World Record. This one is for all our fans for their unmatched passion and unwavering support. Congratulations to @GCAMotera and @IPL.”
Participating in the IPL for the first time, the newly launched Gujarat Titans had won their first IPL title that day, defeating the Royals by seven wickets in the summit clash. A day/night Test-match between India and Australia likely to be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in February.
