Most regions have a typical week of six workdays while the information technology field is usually bound to a five-day schedule. Some places have longer working hours, others have shorter working hours. However in concern to workdays the Japanese government has taken a different move. It is now compulsory that workers work for only four days a week.
So, now one may wonder why such a decision has been taken by Japan, and what could be the reasons for such a decision. Let’s dig into the details…
Many have been astounded by this new decision taken by the Japanese government. Instructions have been given to carry on with a four-day workweek for all organizations. This is one policy that Japan had decided to follow initially in 2021 and had given orders at that time. But many companies and organizations came forward in opposition to the new policy, stating that it would hamper the future development of Japan. At that time, only 8% of organizations had implemented a four-day workweek.

Recently, Japan’s government has pointed back to this decision once again. As per the government’s instruction, it has told all companies to implement four-day work in employee service. The Japanese government says that it will create more job opportunities and help solve unemployment, particularly with micro, small, and medium-scale businesses. The fewer the working days are, the higher the time one can spend with their families and in child-rearing.
One company is also already on the four-day working weekend in Tokyo, giving employees Wednesday off along with weekends. It has said this approach reduces employee stress and increases productivity since employees rush to finish their work in fewer days.
