Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has declined CM Arvind Kejriwal’ request for Cabinet Minister Atishi to hoist the tricolor on 15th August on the occasion of Independence Day at Chhatrasal Stadium, and has instead nominated Kailash Gahlot for the responsibility. Delhi LG Saxena has nominated Delhi Home Minister to unfurl the flag on August 15.

Earlier, AAP had requested that education minister Atishi be nominated to hoist Indian flag on August 15 in place of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Few days ago, Arvind Kejriwal had written to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to formally convey his choice. However, Mr Saxena’s office declared it did not receive any communication.

Rejection of Atishi sparked political row between the AAP and VK Saxena, who is the centre’s representative in the national capital. Ruling party slammed the block as “petty politics”.

Every year in Delhi, Chief Minister hoists the flag on 15th August. However, due to his arrest in the liquor scam, Arvind Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
