KTR Supports the Victims, Calling Hydra Demolitions Unjust

0:00

Hydra (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection) is cracking down on illegal constructions across lakes, ponds, and government lands in Hyderabad. The agency is demolishing structures located in FTL (Flood Tide Level) and buffer zones, causing panic among illegal occupants. Recently, the Telangana government granted Hydra expanded powers, allowing it to act more aggressively.

Under the leadership of A.V. Ranganath, Hydra aims to protect government property, prevent encroachments on lakes and drains, and remove illegal structures. While the government is receiving considerable support from the public for these actions, many poor and middle-class families are being left homeless due to these demolitions.

Opposition parties have also criticized Hydra’s actions. KTR, the working president of the BRS party, recently expressed his outrage over the demolitions, calling them unjust. He made several recommendations to the government, urging them to ensure justice for the poor, free from political biases and personal animosities. KTR stated, “We do not promote encroachments, but we stand by the underprivileged.

When demolishing homes, steps should be taken to relocate families, especially children and women, to prevent them from being left on the streets. The scenes during these demolitions are heartbreaking; children and women are being forcefully evicted from their homes. Vendors operating on footpaths should be relocated to designated vending zones. Losing their livelihoods overnight will leave these families in dire straits.”

KTR further asserted that it is inappropriate to target the homes of poor and middle-class families. He suggested that action be taken against officials who approved constructions in FTL and buffer zones despite knowing the risks. “This is not a measure that should be taken by the Congress government. While the intent may be good, demolishing homes without compassion is unacceptable. Demolitions should only proceed after providing alternative solutions or designated vending zones for those affected. We will offer legal assistance to all Hydra victims.

Our party’s legal cell will support them. If anyone faces issues, please visit the BRS central office in Banjara Hills. We will ensure justice for the victims, or bring the matter to the attention of our BRS MLAs in the city for legal support. We will visit families affected, such as those of Kasturibai and Vedashree. If the government works with good intentions, we will cooperate. There is a need for the High Court to take suo moto action on demolitions happening over the weekend,” KTR stated.
