In Hyderabad, the posh liquor shop ‘Tonique Elite’ has been recently seized by Excise officials. The outlet, following an inspection, was found to be operating in contravention of rules, and all its stock of liquor was seized. ‘Tonique Elite’, located on Jubilee Hills Road Number 36, was set up in the year 2016. On Sunday, there was a raid by Excise in the shop and as detected, the shop was running in violation of the rules.
According to the Excise rules, the licenses of liquor shops are to be issued every two years based on auctions. Though the license owner of the ‘Tonique Elite’ shop had obtained prior permission, he applied for its renewal. Then the application for renewal was rejected by the Excise Department, and an opinion was given that the shop is running without necessary permission.

License of ‘Tonique Elite’ was only valid till August 31. However, the store continued the sales on September 1 after which it was seized. Hyderabad Excise Deputy Commissioner Shastri, Assistant Commissioner Anil Kumar Reddy, Jubilee Hills CI Vasudev Rao along with other Excise officers were part of the seizure. Officers found 10,291 bottles of liquor in the store that were valued at approximately ₹1.70 crore.
