Major Allegations in Phone Tapping Scandal: Former Telangana DCP Makes Explosive

In a significant development in the phone-tapping scandal, Radha Kishan Rao, a former deputy commissioner of Police in Telangana, has made startling allegations against former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). According to a statement reportedly made to the Hyderabad Police, Radha Kishan Rao has confessed to his involvement in the phone-tapping operation and implicated several high-ranking officials and political figures.

Allegations Against KCR

Radha Kishan Rao claims that KCR, also known as ‘Peddayana’, sought the arrest of BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh. The objective, according to Rao, was to pressure the BJP into a compromise that would benefit KCR’s daughter, K. Kavitha, who was embroiled in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to the Delhi excise policy. The former DCP alleges that KCR formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to arrest B.L. Santhosh to strengthen the case against the BJP. This, he claims, was intended to leverage the BJP into withdrawing the ED case against Kavitha. However, Rao mentions that due to the incompetence of certain Cyberabad police officers in Kerala, a crucial suspect managed to evade arrest. Consequently, the case was escalated to the High Court, which did not issue any arrest orders, and the SIT case was subsequently transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Rao’s Confession

In his confession, Radha Kishan Rao expressed reluctance to divulge more details, citing his indebtedness to KCR, who had re-appointed him twice and posted him in the City Task Force after his retirement in 2020.

Role of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB)

Rao further implicated Prabhakar Rao, the Chief of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), in orchestrating the phone-tapping operations. According to Rao, the SIB, under Prabhakar Rao’s direction, systematically targeted individuals perceived as threats to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The intelligence gathered was then passed on to SIB DSP Praneeth Kumar, who continuously monitored these individuals to create profiles that could neutralize potential threats to the BRS.

Surveillance of Prominent Figures

The confession also revealed that several prominent figures were under surveillance, including MLC Shambipur Raju, BRS leader Kadiyam Srihari, Patnam Mahender Reddy and his wife, retired IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar, and some well-known media personalities. Prabhakar Rao and his team reportedly analyzed Internet Protocol Data Records (IPDRs) to track communications over Internet calls.

Arrests in the Investigation

The investigation has already resulted in the arrest of several key figures, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Praneeth Rao, Additional Superintendent of Police Bhujanga Rao, and senior police officer Tirupathanna. This scandal continues to unfold, revealing deep-seated issues within the political and law enforcement framework in Telangana, and promises further developments as investigations proceed.
