With the controversy brewing over irregularities in the conduction of NEET and UGC NET exams raging across the country, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has now dashed off a letter to Prime Minister Modi and eight other Chief Ministers. He has urged that the NEET system, the national-level entrance exam for admission into medical colleges, be scrapped. In this regard, the letters were dispatched to PM Modi and eight other Chief Ministers.

In the letter, he insisted on exemption for Tamil Nadu from NEET. It has been mentioned that admission to Professional courses shall be based only on 12th-grade marks and not on any special entrance examination. Further, he alleged that NEET was a source of undue pressure on students. He added that other states have also started raising their voice related to the cancellation of the NEET exam. He opined that Tamil Nadu must be exempt from NEET and a bill, with unanimous, passage in the Assembly for medical admissions based on 12th-grade marks. Stalin also urged Chief Ministers of eight states to pass resolutions in the operation of the Assemblies for the cancellation of NEET. Working in this regard, he wrote letters to the Chief Ministers of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telangana, Kerala, and Karnataka. He also urged these states to extend their valid support for the Tamil Nadu demand relating to exemption from NEET.
