More Restaurants in Hyderabad Found Violating Food Safety Regulations

In a continuation of recent restaurant inspections, the Telangana Food Task Force team conducted raids on three well-known eateries in Hyderabad’s Charminar area on Wednesday. The targeted establishments included Hotel Shadab Restaurant, Nimrah Cafe, and Arabiana Restaurant, where numerous violations of food safety standards were uncovered. Detailed updates were shared on the X account of the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, on Friday, listing the various infractions found during these inspections.

Common violations across all three restaurants included the failure to display a true copy of the FSSAI License prominently, the absence of medical fitness certificates for food handlers, and the exposure of kitchen or baking areas to the external environment without proper insect-proof screens. Additionally, doors were not closely fitted, allowing pests and flies to enter. Specific violations at each establishment are detailed below:

Nimrah Cafe and Bakery, Charminar:

– Several food handlers were found without haircaps, gloves, or aprons.

– Food items such as fresh cream and pastries were stored in the refrigerator without any labeling.

– Pest control records for the premises were not available.

– However, the baking equipment and surrounding areas, including the floor, were found to be clean and hygienic.

Hotel Shadab, Charminar:

– Improperly labeled food items, including Eagle Brand Cutting Coconuts (Packed), Dried Rose Petal (Packed), Cardamom, and Jeera, were found and seized. These items lacked packaging dates and batch numbers.

– Some semi-prepared and raw food items in the refrigerator were stored without proper labeling or covering.

– Dustbins were found open and without lids.

– Flaking plaster from the ceiling, dust, and cobwebs were observed over the gas pipeline on the ground floor in the kitchen area.

– The establishment was noted for conducting pest control measures every fortnight, with records available to verify this.

Arabiana Restaurant, Charminar:

– The restaurant was found lacking in several areas of food safety compliance, similar to the other two establishments inspected.

These findings highlight a concerning trend of food safety violations among popular eateries in Hyderabad. The Telangana Food Task Force emphasized the importance of adhering to food safety regulations to ensure public health and safety. The recent inspections are part of a broader effort to enforce compliance and improve food safety standards across the city.

Restaurant owners and managers are urged to rectify these issues promptly to avoid further legal action and to ensure the safety and satisfaction of their customers. The Food Safety Department has stated that it will continue its rigorous inspections and take necessary actions against establishments that fail to comply with food safety standards.

In response to these findings, the Food Safety Commissioner has called for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement of food safety regulations. The aim is to protect consumers and maintain high standards of hygiene and safety in the food industry. The recent inspections serve as a reminder to all food establishments to prioritize food safety and adhere to regulatory requirements to ensure the well-being of their patrons.
