It is well known that a horrific incident of rape and murder took place involving a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. This incident has sparked widespread protests across the country. Recently, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh responded to the incident. He wrote letters to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor CV Ananda Bose regarding the matter.
Harbhajan Singh, who is also an Aam Aadmi Party MP, posted about the murder and assault on the Kolkata doctor on the social media platform X. He urged for the investigation to be expedited and stated that justice for the victim would bring peace to her soul. He expressed these thoughts in a two-page letter, saying, “This violence has shaken me. It is not just an attack on one person but a serious crime against the dignity and safety of every woman in the country. Authorities must take immediate action.”

He further added, “Words fail me after such an incident involving the doctor. This incident has terrified the entire nation. It’s a heinous act committed against a woman, raising serious concerns about the safety of women in our country. The gaps in addressing such incidents need to be corrected.”
In his letter, Harbhajan wrote, “It is unacceptable that such a horrific crime occurred in a place meant to save lives. It is deeply painful, and there should be no compromise on this. The culprits must be punished severely. It’s been a week since the incident, yet no significant action has been taken. Doctors across the nation are protesting, but their voices are being ignored,” he stated angrily.
