NEET fiasco: Congress, Left affiliated students unions try to lay siege to Kishan Reddy's house


Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at the residence of Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy here on Saturday morning when the members of various students’ unions affiliated to Left parties and Congress tried to lay siege to his house demanding cancellation of NEET. The students reached Reddy’s home to seek an appointment to meet with him and to submit a memorandum demanding the cancellation of NEET. As they could not get an appointment, irate students laid siege in front of Reddy’s house.

Raising slogans denouncing the attitude of the Central government over the conduct of NEET exam, students have urged Reddy to use his good offices for canceling the exam and conducting it once again in the larger interest of innocent students. The Centre tendered an apology to as many as 24 lakh students who appeared for the exam. Of these 24 lakh students, 60,000 students from the two Telugu States appeared for the exam. Students vowed to continue their agitation till the Centre cancels the exam and conducts it once again. All India Students’ Federation State Secretary Putta Laxman fractured his left leg after over 10 members along with the police, who were preventing students from staging the demonstration, fell on him suddenly.

Affiliated students of AISF, Students Federation of India, National Students Union of India, Progressive Democratic Students Union, Vidhyarthi Jana Samithi, All India Youth Federation, Democratic Youth Federation of India, Pradesh Youth Congress, Youth Justice Society, Progressive Youth League, and others took part in large numbers in the protest. He interacted with the media persons right there at the house of Reddy, on whose behalf he was present, as the Congress MLC Balmoori Venkat; he urged the Minister to prevail upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the cancellation of the exam.
