The Tata Group is one of India’s biggest commercial enterprises that has left its indelible mark on business. Under the leadership of Ratan Tata, the group has entered almost every possible industry, from salt to gold. Now all eyes are on the Tata Group with discussions for the next generation of leadership post-Ratan Tata. To this, the transfer of responsibilities to the younger generation within the Tata Group has started in earnest. Of late, Ratan Tata has started passing on the mantle to the family’s younger members.
Trent Limited is a joint venture between the Tata Group and British retailer Tesco and has under its umbrella a portfolio of retail businesses across brands such as Star Market, Westside, Zudio, and Zara. There has been huge interest over who will finally take over the reins of these businesses post Ratan Tata. According to reports, Ratan Tata is handing over the responsibilities of the Star Market Bazaar retail chain to Neville Tata. This has created interest in knowing who Neville Tata is and what relationship he has with Ratan Tata.

Significantly, 32-year-old Neville Tata happens to be the stepbrother of erstwhile Chairman of Tata Sons Ratan Tata. He is the son of Noel Tata, hence Ratan Tata’s nephew. Neville is currently a member of the board at Trent Hypermarket Limited. He has resigned as a non-executive director following his assumption of executive duties in the company, sources close to the company said.
Neville Tata did his college at Bayes Business School in Britain. He has been with Trent Limited since 2016. He first worked with the Food and Beverages business before taking charge of operations for the Zudio retail brand. After further studies abroad, he is now being given charge of the retail chain Star Bazaar within the Tata Group. However, his father Noel Tata is likely to continue guiding him for quite some time before Neville takes complete charge as CEO and Executive Director. Apart from Neville, Noel Tata’s daughters also hold different positions in companies of Tata Group. For instance, Leh Tata has managed different responsibilities at Indian Hotels of Tata Group.
