Pakistan extends a special invitation to Prime Minister Modi. Do you know why?

Pakistan has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year, Pakistan is going to host the prestigious ‘Shanghai Cooperation Organization’ – SCO summit on October 15th and 16th.

The summit will be held in Islamabad, the capital city. It would be joined by the Presidents, Prime Ministers or Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the SCO.

The SCO came into being in 2001, its members comprising India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia are observer states.

Other countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Turkey have dialogue partnerships with the organization. The theme of this summit is to further strengthen bilateral relations among the member countries.

While last year it was held in the Indian state of Goa, this time it is left to Pakistan to host the event, and as part of the preparatory process, it has issued a formal invitation to Indian PM Narendra Modi.
