Modi on Wednesday paid tributes to all those who suffered during India’s partition in 1947, and said that a lot of those impacted by the Partition went on to rebuild their lives and attain immense success.

14th August is significant in the history for various political and the economic reasons. In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the day (14th August) to be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, marking 1947 division of India by British rule, that led to massive displacement and loss of lives.

In 2021, Modi declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The partition of India in the year 1947, under British rule, led to the creation of Pakistan as the Muslim majority nation. This division resulted in the displacement of millions and the loss of countless lives due to the violence. On 14th August, Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day.

Pakistan was carved out as the Muslim country after the division of India by the British colonial rule in 1947.
