People prefer OTT over theatres, know why?

On the day of release of a movie in theatres, most regular movie lovers are becoming noticeable by their absence. This abatement has become common since the pre-Covid days when there would be a struggle at the ticket counters. Contrary to the past days, now the regulars are awaiting a film’s first day review before deciding to watch the movie in a theatre or on OTT.

A survey has found that many people are not going to theatres and even those who watch films of their favourite stars multiple times are thinking twice about going to theatres. This may be because of higher ticket rates.

As the people are having more choices like OTTs, live telecasts online or web series on various OTT platforms to watch certain shows, they feel that they are getting enough entertainment at their home itself and are not looking at the theatres.

An official of Sudarshan 35 mm theatre at Cross Roads, Madhu Venaih said, “Audiences would be more for regular shows even during week days, prior to the lockdown. We would have students, people bunking the office, couples, families and even job aspirants. Now hardly anyone comes.”

Appealing for obscurity, one of the film producers said, “The industry is in hard condition to sustain. There has to be some uniformity when it comes to ticket pricing. Those in the good books of the government are given relaxation to increase prices, whereas pricing of movies of those who have no leverage remains the same.”

Anyway, it is the fact that most of the people prefer OTT over theatres, mainly after the arrival of Covid into the universe. Theatres are gaining no profits, as all the people are waiting for OTT releases, which are streaming just after a few days of theatrical releases. So, OTT has become more advantage for the people to enjoy the new entertainment arrivals. However, those new films are afterwards arriving on small screen within months. In the past times, new movies were allowed to screen on television after at least more than six months of its theatrical release.
