Rama Banam misses the target

Star Cast: Gopichand, Jagapati Babu, Dimple Hayati, Kushboo Sunder, Tarun Raj Arora, Sachin Khedekar and others

Music director: Mickey J Meyer

Cinematographer: Vetri Palaniswamy

Editor: Prawin Pudi

Producers: TG Vishwaprasad, Vivek Kuchibotla

Director: SriwassAction hero Gopichand’s much anticipated movie Rama Banam released in theatres on Friday. Besides Gopichand, senior hero-turned character artiste Jagapati Babu plays a key role in this family and action drama directed by Sriwass. Let’s find out what this Ramabanam has in store for movie goers.

Ramabanam story and Screenplay:

Rajaram (Jagapati Babu) is a good samaritan who leads an ideal life. He works on popularizing organic foods and runs a hotel which exclusively offers organic food at very cheap prices. This irks Rajaram’s competitor Papa Rao (Nasser) who attacks Rajaram’s hotel and takes away his license. Here enters teenaged Vicky (Gopichand) who sets fire to Papa Rao’s godown and brings back license.

When Rajaram scolds younger Vicky for being so violent, he runs away to Kolkata, leaving his elder brother and family members in grief. A grown up Vicky returns to his family in Hyderabad, after emerging as a powerful don in Kolakata.

Vicky hides the truth that he is a dreaded don from his family. At a time when Rajaram and his family are happy that Vicky is back, troubles erupt as GK (Tarun Arora) an unscrupulous competitor of Rajaram, launches ruthless attacks on Rajaram’s family. How Vicky convinces his loving brother about his cruel past, why GK is attacking Rajaram, whether Vicky will be successful in protecting his family are the main aspects of story.

Outdated treatment makes Ramabanam go haywire:

As a story Ramabanam has enough substance to keep audience engaged. Senior writer Bhupati Raja has given a message oriented story. But the way story has been narrated and presented is completely outdated.

It appears director Sriwass wanted to turn Ramabanam into a pucca commercial movie appealing to all sections of audience. But in the process he has failed to catch the soul of story.

Artistes performances:

Gopichand has done his role well. As usually shown ease in action. He has also tried new steps in dances. But he should take serious care about story selection to stay in the business.

Its nice to see Jagapati Babu in a positive and powerful role after a long time. Kushboo Sunder is fine in a homely role.

Dimple Hayati played Gopichand’s romantic interest. Though she has an important role, it is a limited one. She has been used to do glamour chores.

Tarun Arora, Nasser played negative roles impressively. Comedy track has been taken care by Ali, Vennela Kishore, Satya and others.

Coming to technical crafts cinematography by Vetri Palanisamy is adequate. Mickey K Meyer’s music is in tune with the movie. Editing should have been crispier:

Ybrant Verdict:

Rama Banam is a routine formula film targeting mass and family audience.

With an outdated treatment, it might neither pull mass audience nor families.
