Rare Honour for Rajinikanth Movie: Becomes First Indian Film to Feature in List

Superstar Rajinikanth is an Indian cinema industry style icon who has earned a rare honour for one of his movies. Having come up with acting prowess and a unique style, Rajinikanth has garnered millions of fans across the globe. He is competing with young heroes, giving blockbuster movies continuously, back-to-back; the latest being “Jailer.”

One of Rajinikanth’s movies has gained world recognition. His film featured in the list of the greatest films of the 21st century by the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound magazine. More important is the fact that it was the only Indian film in the list.

The film, with this international acclamation, is “Kaala,” directed by Pa. Ranjith, released in 2018. “Kaala” is a robust narrative relating to class struggle between the oppressed and the upper class seeking authority. Though the film did not come up to the expectations at the box office, it has now earned a prestigious accolade.

Its crowning glory is that “Kaala” has featured on the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound magazine list of the top 25 films of this century, possibly next only to films such as “Old Boy” and “Get Out.” More significantly, it was the only Indian film on the list.

“As we close the first quarter of the 21st century, this list is based on the analysis by 25 leading film critics. We selected the best films from 2000-2024 – one film from each year,” explained the BFI.

Don’t you feel that Rajinikanth’s “Kaala” really did not deserve to find its name included in the above-enumerated list? Do leave your comments.
