Roger Federer, the famous Tennis player announced his retirement yesterday through his social media handles. Taking to Twitter, he conveyed the news in a blinking word format.

He said, “I am 41 years old, I’ve played more than 1,500 matches over 24 years, and Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career.”

He continued that the past 3 years have presented him with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. He had worked hard to return to full competitive form, but he also know his body’s capabilities and limits and its message to him lately has been cleared.

He further said that this is a bittersweet decision because he would miss everything the tour had given him, but at the same time, there is so much to make the merry of. He considers himself one of the most fortunate people on earth. He was given a special talent to play Tennis and did it at a level. He never imagined for much longer than he ever thought possible.

He acquired 20 Grand slam singles titles and his appearance at next week’s Laver Cup in London would be his last competitive match. He has 103 ATP singles titles, 20 Grand Slam championships, 8 men’s singles titles at Wimbledon and a record-tying 5 at the US Open.
