Road Congestion tax in Bengaluru?

We all know how difficult it is wading through Bengaluru traffic. While Silicon City has many merits, unfortunately it is getting popular for heavy traffic jams, bad roads and crumbling city infrastructure. To address this situation, Karnataka Government is coming up with a new proposal of levying ‘road congestion tax’.

According to various news reports and traffic analysts, about more than 1.2 Cr vehicles enter Bengaluru daily. These include all like two wheelers, four wheelers, heavy vehicles and both public and private transport vehicles. As a result the city is witnessing heavy traffic and especially during peak hours traffic jams for hours have become a common feature of Bengaluru life.

To decrease traffic jams and ease daily commute of Bengaluru citizens, Karnataka Government is planning to levy road congestion tax. According to this, tax will be levied on vehicles entering Bengaluru during peak hours. Officials feel that, due to this tax, congestion during peak hours may be decreased, helping in easing traffic jams in the main city.
