The command of the Railway Board will be in the hands of Satish Kumar from September 1. Satish Kumar’ name has been approved as the first Dalit Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. He will hold this responsibility for the next one year.
Indian Railways has appointed Satish Kumar, a 1986 batch Railway Mechanical Engineer, as the new Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. He will be a Dalit in the 119-year history of the Railways, who will lead the organization. Satish Kumar has been promoted from the current Board Member (Traction and Rolling Stock) to the post of CEO.

Satish Kumar’s wife is a doctor by profession. On September 1, he will replace Jaya Verma Sinha, who has been appointed as the administrative member of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). Sinha created a record last year by becoming the first woman CEO of the Railway Board. The approval of the Cabinet Appointments Committee headed by PM Modi to lead the highest decision-making body of the Railways comes at a time when Dalits and reservation have become major topics of political discourse.
Satish Kumar has made significant contributions to the Indian Railways during his 38-year career. He has done B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Jaipur’s famous Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT). After this, he did PG Diploma in Operation Management and Cyber Law from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
