Shinde announces a 'zero tolerance' policy towards hit-and-run offenders.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has directed that strict action be taken by police in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, and no guilty person should be spared. He mentioned that rich politicians who use their power to manipulate the system will not be spared. He issued this directive following an incident in which a 45-year-old lady, Kaveri Nakhwa, was killed after a BMW rammed her husband’s motorcycle. While Kaveri was brought dead, her husband survived. The car dragged her for nearly two kilometers, officials said. Son of a Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah is accused of having been sitting inside the car while the car rammed into Kaveri and her husband, and is currently absconding as his family claims that their driver was driving.

Chief Minister Shinde has pointed out that the administration would not tolerate hit-and-run offenders, whoever they may be. Rajesh Shah, accused of killing two, was out on bail on Tuesday when another hit-and-run case was reported in Pune, killing an on-duty police constable.

“I am deeply alarmed by the rise of hit-and-run incidents in Maharashtra. The misuse of power by the influential to escape justice is intolerable.”. Such miscarriages of justice shall not come about in my governance. Lives of the common man are too precious for me. I have instructed the state police to treat these cases with utmost seriousness and to bring forth justice for the victims. We are further putting in place tougher laws and stiffer penalties for hit-and-run offenders,” Shinde said.

He reiterated his commitment of his administration to the creation of a safe environment for the people of Maharashtra by stating, “Let it be clear: my administration stands firmly with the victims and their families. We stand steadfast in our commitment to create a safer Maharashtra for all its citizens.”.

Meanwhile, the CCTV footage came out in which Mihir Shah was leaving a pub along with his friends in a Mercedes and later changed to BMW. The police suspect that he was in an inebriated state. An LOC has been issued against him, and six police teams are working on tracing him.
