Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, has returned 14 land parcels allocated to her in the Mysore region to the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). CM Siddaramaiah shared this news through his post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing surprise at his wife’s decision to return the land.

“My wife returned the land that was given to us as compensation for the land MUDA had acquired from us. The opposition has created false allegations around this and dragged my family into a controversy. The people of the state are aware of this injustice. While I decided to fight against this, my wife became a victim of political vendetta and conspiracies. I respect her decision. Throughout my four-decade political career, my wife has stayed away from politics, focusing solely on family responsibilities. Now, she is experiencing mental distress due to these divisive politics,” Siddaramaiah stated in his post on X.

Admission of Guilt, Says BJP:

Karnataka BJP has intensified its criticism against CM Siddaramaiah, with state BJP president Vijayendra stating that Parvathi’s return of the 14 land parcels is an admission of guilt. He described the move as a political drama aimed at evading the court. Vijayendra demanded that CM Siddaramaiah take moral responsibility and resign from his post. He also insisted that Siddaramaiah apologize for previously accusing the Governor of being a puppet in the hands of the central government before stepping down.

The Case:

The land in question belonged to Siddaramaiah’s wife, B.M. Parvathi, and was acquired by MUDA for development purposes. In exchange, 14 plots of land in various locations in Mysore were allotted to her. Three social activists lodged a complaint with the Governor, alleging that the land allocation was made at the behest of the Chief Minister and caused a loss of ₹45 crore to the state exchequer. Following the Governor’s order for an investigation, the issue has sparked a political controversy.
